challenge rules

The following rules apply to participants taking part in the ANZAC Day Challenge and their spectators. These rules have been put in place to protect the safety of participants, spectators, event crew and the general public, as well as to ensure fairness of all participants of the event.

Participants found to be breaking any of the event rules, will be subjected to time penalties or disqualification (i.e. withdrawal) from the event.

  1. Race bib with number must be on your front and visible at all times.
  2. You must stay on the marked course, short cuts are not allowed and any participant who is found to have taken any shortcuts will have time penalties applied.
  3. If wearing headphones, participants must remove the ear pieces when approaching marshals and while at checkpoints to ensure they hear any instructions being given. Headphones mustalso be removed when crossing or running near any roads so that you can hear traffic around you. Ensure any music is not so loud that you’re unable to hear and move aside for other participants passing in single trail sections of course.
  4. If you need any first aid assistance or come across any emergency situation while on the course, use the emergency number on the reverse side of your bib to contact event organisers.
  5. Any participant withdrawing from the event must notify a race official. Should you withdraw on the course, and do not see a race official (e.g. if you leave and go home), you must contact race organisers using the emergency phone number on the reverse side of your bib to notify them of your withdrawal.
  6. You must follow the instructions of race officials and marshals at the event hub and while on the course. This includes withdrawing from the event if you fail to make cut off times.
  7. You must carry all your rubbish out.
  8. No pets are allowed on the course. If you come across any wildlife on the course, do not approach it, touch or attempt to handle it.
  9. Spectators are not allowed on the course. Suggested viewing areas are at St Ives Showground and the Davidson Park aid station (under Roseville Bridge) on The Nek 40km Challenge.
  10. Spectators or friends are not allowed to run with or pace the participants. Participants may receive a warning or time penalty if this occurs.
  11. A runner is responsible for the actions of any friends or spectators following the race. If these spectators go out of official access areas or spectator areas, the runner may receive a time penalty.
  12. If you come across another runner in need of assistance, you are required to stop and help in whatever way you are able to. You will receive a credit for any time lost in doing this.
  13. Any runner requiring IV fluids and/or prescription medications from event doctors must withdraw from the event.
  14. Runners arriving at an aid station after the official cut off time will not be permitted to continue and must wait at the aid station until suitable arrangements for their transport off the course are made with race officals at the aid station.
  15. The safety of the participants is the highest priority for the race organisers. Safety comes first before anything else, which means that if the event has to be called off or suspended due to any issue that may compromise the safety of competitors, the organisers will not hesitate to do that. Event Organisers reserve the right to alter the course without notice and/or cancel the event in consultation with, and under the direction of, emergency services agencies and major event stakeholders or landowners. In the unlikely circumstance that the event is cancelled for reasons outside of our control such as weather, fire, flood, Park closures or any other reasons, we will be unable to offer a refund of your entry fee. This is due to the fact that most of the costs of operating an event of this nature are incurred and paid for prior to the event.

If the medical director has concerns for the welfare of any runner who falls ill during the event the organisers reserve the right to withdraw or disqualify the participant.
